Idea: text entry with only the four arrow keys of a TV remote. Every character is a 4×4×4 tree, drawn as three concentric rings (4 sectors → 16 groups → 64 slots) with a fisheye effect: each press blows up the chosen sector so its four children sit on the four arrow directions. Exactly 3 presses per slot, no OK needed to select, no timeouts, learnable blind.
New in v2: the bottom sector (↓) is a command sector, identical in every layout, tinted teal. Letters live in the other three sectors; most symbols and digits moved to the Symbols layout. Inside the command sector: ↓ ↓ = 4 word suggestions (best one on ↓ ↓ ↓; accepting also adds a space), ↓ → = cursor (↓ → ↓ enters cursor mode; ↓ → → / ↓ → ← jump a word right / left; ↓ → ↑ new line), ↓ ← = edit (undo, shift, clear field, delete word), ↓ ↑ = the most common punctuation . , ? !. In cursor mode the arrows move the cursor (← → one character, ↑ start, ↓ end); OK or Back leaves it. Capital letters are automatic at the start of the field and after . ! ?; Shift makes the next letter a capital and shows the capitals on the wheel; hold the shift slot (its sector fills up, 1.5 s) for caps lock, and the slot then turns into a “leave caps lock” button.
Voice (button below or V) emulates the mic button of a remote: the sectors slide in behind the centre, a microphone appears and the page listens (it uses the browser's speech recognition when available, otherwise it types a demo phrase). OK inserts what was heard, any other key cancels.
Private input (button below or P) simulates a password field: suggestions are switched off (the slots show a lock), nothing is learned, there are no automatic capitals, and typed characters appear as dots (the last one is visible for about a second). In a real build the host app would set this per field.
Suggestions come from a small built-in English/Russian word list plus words you finish typing (kept only in this page's memory, nothing is sent anywhere). In a real build the source would be pluggable (e.g. the titles in a media library) and switched off for password fields.
Use your keyboard to emulate a remote: ↑ ↓ ← → choose a sector. Enter (OK): short press (under 0.4 s) in the root = space, long press (1.5 s, a green ring grows in the centre) = confirm. Backspace (Back): erase a character / go up one level; hold 1.5 s (red ring) to auto-repeat erase; on an empty field it closes the keyboard. M (Menu): short = next layout (carousel), long = zoom out to see all layouts (←/→ browse, Enter pick, Backspace cancel). Esc (Home): close and discard.
On a phone / with a mouse: tap the four sectors for the arrows, and use the OK / Back / Menu / Home buttons below. Press and hold works the same as on a keyboard.
Feedback welcome: is a dedicated command sector a good use of a quarter of the wheel? Is cursor mode (3 presses to enter, then 1 per step) acceptable? Do suggestions pay off at 3 presses each?
